While Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a victory over Lucknow Super Giants on Monday (May 19), the win was slightly overshadowed by an injury to their all-rounder, Kamindu Mendis.

The player from Sri Lanka encountered the injury in the 18th over of the SRH innings when his side required just 11 runs to clinch the high-scoring contest at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The unfortunate incident unfolded on the fifth ball of the 18th over as Kamindu Mendis faced Shardul Thakur.

Kamindu Mendis’ Hamstring injury moment

Thakur delivered a yorker aimed at the off stump, and Kamindu Mendis successfully directed the ball towards the off side. Immediately after hitting the ball, Mendis sprinted for a quick single. During this moment, Nicholas Pooran swiftly gathered the ball and made a throw at the stumps. However, Pooran failed to hit the target as Mendis attempted to reach the crease in time.

In the course of his run, Kamindu Mendis appeared to injure his hamstring while taking a small hop just before reaching the crease. He was seen gripping his hamstring right after completing the run.

Mendis received immediate attention from the physio but chose to exit the field. Before departing, Mendis contributed 32 runs off 21 balls.
