The pitch at The Oval has shown potential for spinners, and the management might consider including a wrist-spinner by sidelining Shardul Thakur.
The Indian team management is likely to refrain from utilizing Jasprit Bumrah for the fifth Test, based on recommendations from the medical team.
At the start of the series, it was agreed that Bumrah would participate in only three matches to manage his workload. He has already completed his set of three Tests, and the medical staff has advised against his participation in the fifth Test.
Batting coach says about Jasprit Bumrah
However, team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak mentioned: “Jasprit Bumrah is now fit, and he bowled during one innings in the last match, so the head coach, physio, and captain will convene to make a decision. We have not yet reached a conclusion…”
Following a draw in the second Test in Manchester, head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that all fast bowlers were in good condition, and during an optional practice session on Tuesday, Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh bowled together.
Both players were absent from the previous match due to injuries, and as per sources, there’s a chance that Arshdeep could make his Test debut, replacing Anshul Kamboj. Akash might also return if the team plans to rest Mohammed Siraj, who has featured in all four Tests.
During the practice session, coach Gambhir also had an extended discussion with spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has remained unused throughout the series.
Historically, the Oval pitch has offered some assistance to spinners, and the management could be inclined to include the wrist-spinner by resting Shardul Thakur. Nevertheless, Kotak stated that a final decision would be made the day before the match after evaluating the pitch conditions.
