Pakistan experienced a significant defeat in the T20 and ODI series during their tour of New Zealand. Following this loss, Pakistani cricketer Khushdil Shah lost his cool. The performance of the Pakistani team was subpar even in the Champions Trophy 2025, where they failed to reach the semi-finals.
On their tour of New Zealand, the Pakistani cricket team underperformed. They lost the five-match T20 series with a score of 1-4. Subsequently, they suffered a disheartening 0-3 defeat in the three-match ODI series. After the third ODI match held between New Zealand and Pakistan in Mount Maunganui, chaos erupted on the field.
Khushdil Shah Loose temper
Cricketer Khushdil Shah became enraged after the team’s defeat. A viral video shows Khushdil attempting to confront fans near the boundary line, with security personnel trying to intervene. An aggressive fan can be heard shouting, and in the same footage, a security guard is seen escorting a fan away from the field. Fortunately, the security team managed to resolve the situation; otherwise, it could have escalated into a brawl.
In this incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come to Khushdil Shah’s defense. The PCB stated that Khushdil lost his temper due to derogatory remarks from a section of fans. The board claimed that some Afghan supporters at the venue were chanting anti-Pakistan slogans. As per the statement from the PCB, “The leadership of the Pakistan team firmly condemns the offensive language directed at our players by international fans.” During the match, foreign spectators made inappropriate comments regarding the cricketers on the field. When anti-Pakistan slogans were shouted, cricketer Khushdil Shah stepped in and urged the spectators to stop.”
The PCB’s statement went on to say, “In response, the Afghan spectators heightened the conflict by utilizing derogatory remarks in Pashto.” Following a formal complaint from the Pakistani cricket team, the stadium authorities took action and removed the disruptive spectators from the area.”
Due to inclement weather and a soggy outfield, the third ODI match in the series between New Zealand and Pakistan was shortened to 42 overs per side. In the game, New Zealand set a target of 265 runs for Pakistan, but the whole team was dismissed for just 221 runs in 40 overs. Currently, the Pakistani cricket team is experiencing a rough patch.
